Start by getting a copy of your credit report. Make sure that everything on there is actually yours and not someone else's.(which happens quite often) ..Next pay of some of those old debts.. if you have credit cards (which should on be used in emergencys PERIOD) make sure you're keeping them paid up.. don't be late on any payments for anything. work on paying off smaller debts... get a copy of your credit report, pay all outstanding collections, and MAKE THE MINIMUN AMOUNT OF PAYMENT AND IT WILL BOOST YOUR REPORT. ... Also avoid tooo much inquiries( i think each inquiries reduces ur schore by 10 points). ... avoid collection ... avoid inquiries ... make minumum payment on "TIME".
Get your credit report from all 3 credit agencies and make sure everything thats on there is indeed correct. Then from there pay off small credit cards that really kill you with interest. Make sure you make all your payments on time and make sure that you don't inquire about credit often for it will know some points off. To much credit can be a bad thing even if you make your payments on time. By decreasing your debt, and making sure to have a good payment history, that should increase your credit score
