boots is right.... having a 0 balance does not close the account, so either close the account or call them and have the credit limit lowered to just the amount you think you might need in an emergency... say 500 to 1000 $... then put the card away somewhere and keep it just for emergencies....
- It will not automatically close the account - you will have a 0 balance but you must notify the cc company to close the account....yes, I think it's a good idea since you are "paying it off" to close it. You might be tempted to use it if you don't close it - too many open accounts will negatively affect your credit rating.
