What exactly do you think got the USA into the financial mess that we are in? I don't believe
February 16, 2009 - Yes I do beleive this Government is working for their own best interests, not mine. ... Don't use your credit card to buy a flat screen TV, save up for it..... Purchasing a ...
That is not a realistic choice, nor is it the choice being made on capital hill right now. ... To present this question is to show a clear misunderstanding of the stimulus package, let alone a total ignorance of basic economics. ... This dilemma was brought about by a fervent belief that a free market economy, and total deregulation, coupled with a lack of accountability, would bring untold riches to all across the nation. In fact, over the past 28 years of trickle-down economics, and increased deregulation of utilities and banks, the US has seen the largest increase in the gap between rich and poor. What replaced regulations? Corporate greed. ... The idea that tax cuts will stimulate the economy at this point in time is the same type of nonsense. Everyone, including the richest top ten percent, will be looking for ways to safeguard their money. Investor confidence is at an all time low, ( except for the Depression). The Bush stimulus did nothing to boost the economy,as most of those given a check either deposited it in a savings account or paid off some long held debt. ... What is needed is a package of stimuli that will bring immediate, if short term, relief. That means JOBS. These days, the average American does not spend his entire life in one job, collecting a gold watch at a dinner party after 35 years. These days, most people transfer to other companies after 5 years or less, taking their pension plans with them, ( 401K rollovers for example). Today, ALL JOBS ARE TEMPORARY. ... We also need long term relief. That means reinvesting in America's infrastructure. Bridges, roads, trains, airports, ports, mass transit, factories, schools, hospitals, utilities all need help. ... ... For those of you who doubt that America and it's government should be in the business of creating business, I ask you to remember these words.... PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE.... they appear in the preamble to the Constitution. If you don't think that government should work for you, then you don't believe in this government.
- Having had governing bodies that were too quick to throw money at a problem, instead of finding viable solutions that are usually much less expensive.
- johnson admisinstration and their great society. a home for everone. clinton administration insisted creditors lower credit ratings for poor folks so they could buy a home.

In 1983 the Greenspan Commission got a humongous tax increase passed, causing a hugh glut of tax dollars that did help defeat the Soviets. Ever since that time Congress and the White House have had a hard time in figuring out what to do with all of this surplus FICA. It has completely financed military adventures, the war in Iraq and provided tons of pork. I call it "stealing and spending" not "borrowing and spending". Its time to pay the Piper.
- The financial crisis is a combination of greed and mistakes of our government and the financial sector. Credit lines that were way over peoples heads all came together to form a perfect storm. It has been years in the making and had years of being covered up.
- I think we need to STOP blaming government and start blaming ourselves. ... 1. We elect these officials. ... 2. We are the ones who borrowed money we couldn't afford to pay back ... 3. We need to hold everyone accountable, ESPECIALLY OURSELVES!!!!! ... Take some responsibility!
- Tax Cuts & Cutting Government Spending. ... HEY AMERICA...Is that so hard to figure out? ... ... ... sadly, yes
- pork projects, high government salaries, union greed and the war
I'll go with borrowing and spending, as a past employed cashier, people had Several credit cards, not talking about a debit card, they would use them as if it was free money on a card. Don't use your credit card to buy a flat screen TV, save up for it........... Purchasing a house, automobile or for a serious emergency, should be the main use for credit..........
- Obviously, the answer is #2. Our problems could all be solved if government would stop trying to fix them.
- The banks who are private business and they allowed people to borrow more than they could repay. That is what started it all. What gets us out of this problem is putting US citizens to work again by creating jobs not just for unions but for all people in need.
